Hi.

I'm just evaluating the new 6.1 version of OpenERP and the touchscreen POS module for its suitability for our business. After playing around with the Runbot test environment I have a few questions.

Some background first: Our business is a bit unusual in that our products for sale are all donations. We're a bit like a charity shop but we collect unwanted raw materials (timber, plastic, metal, fabric etc.) and sell them. Because the range of products we sell is very wide and constantly changing, we do our pricing and sales processing in the following way:

- The materials we collect are sorted and priced in the sorting area. For example, we may collect a bin of timber offcuts from a furniture manufacturer. In that bin there might be a mixture of plywood, pine and hardwood. The sorting staff have a price book that they refer to which has a price for each of these types of timber. We price most of our materials by weight for sake of ease, so for example, pine is$1.80/kg, hardwood is $2.00/kg and plywood is $2.50/kg. The sorters weigh each piece of timber, calculate the price and put a price label on it.

- At the cash register, the sales assistant enters the amount from the price label and presses the appropriate product button (in the above case, all of pine, hardwood and plywood would go under 'Timber').

At the moment it seems that the POS module would not work well for this for the following reason:

- Let's say a customer has two pieces of timber - a piece of plywood and a piece of pine. I hit the 'Timber' button and enter the price on the piece of plywood ($2.00). That works fine, but when I go to enter the price for the next piece of timber (the piece of pine @ $4.50) I hit the timber button again and the price I enter changes the line item that I entered for the plywood.

Somehow I need to be able to force the POS module to create a new line item each time I hit the 'Timber' product button, regardless of whether I have already entered a 'Timber' line item in the ticket.

Sorry for the long winded post but I wanted to be clear. Does anyone know if it is possible to force the POS module to behave in this way?

Any help appreciated,

Bill.

Now that 6.1 RC has been released, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Maybe a more general question like "to what degree is it possible to customise the way the new POS module operates?" might get a response?

Cheers,

Bill.

Dear all,

Can you manage to install Point of Sales of OpenERP 6.1RC1? My Menu to Point of Sales is a Blank Page. I got the POS backend and all other modules working fine.

What steps I need to do to enable the Point of Sales Front End?

Your help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Seth

Perhaps a new thread might be more appropriate?

Bill.

Bumping this thread in the hope that someone has played around with the POS front end enough to have some views on the questions above.
