I have a similar problem

I set up a general account as described in http://doc.openerp.com/book/5/5_14_Stoc ... istic.html but it doesn't work. I have products coming in and out of the stock but none of these moves is represented on my account.

Moreover, what is the difference between "Inventory account" in Location and "Stock Input account / output account" in "Product". Which one should I use in which case?

We need to define stock input and output account on product and inventory account on stock location.

For example We made sale order and confirm it.
It will create picking for sending goods.
at the time of validating picking it will create accounting entries.
It will take cost price of products and make following entries.

Stock input account defined on product will be Credited
Inventory account defined on destination location will be debited.

Reverse for the purchase order.(incoming picking)
Stock output account defined on product will be Credited
Inventory account defined on destination location will be debited.

It doesn't seem to be working.
I set up "Stock Input Account" and "Stock output account" for a product.
After a complete cycle (sale order, procurement, purchase order, picking, delivery, and invoicing) these accounts still have no entries.

The stock movements are occurring on accounts defined in stock locations instead

Strange!

I checked with same configuration and i am getting entries as i described on my last post.
may be some configuration problem at your ent.
the accounts you defined in stock input, stock output and inventory account on stock location must not be type View.

Are you using same product and location in picking where you defined accounts?

I found out where the problem is!

It s because i set up an Inventory account for input and output location of the warehouse. This seems to have precedence over stock input account and stock output account defined in the product, which seems to have precedence over accounts defined in product category.

I think this should be made more clear in the online documentation and in field description, e.x. "If you leave this field blank, openerp will search in ...."
