I've used the Initial Inventory option to upload items that already exist in the inventory, but this can only be done one item at a time. We are about to implement the Inventory module of openERP for an inventory that has been running for some time and has over 1000 products/items with existing quantities. I have tried to use the import option in the "New Periodical Inventory" screen to import a list of items (by specifying Product, UoM, Inventory Location and Quantity) but it doesn't seem to work (even though I get the message "I object imported") but it does seem to work if I add one item at a time.

Import works fine for bulk uploads in the UoM and Products screens, but not for this screen so I'm assuming you can't bulk upload items with existing quantity (except adding them one by one, which is very inconvenient). Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Faizan.

I have exactly the same problem. Have you solved it or maybe we should flag it as a bug ?

No, still not solved. Certainly a bug, or at least a much, much needed option. Our Inventory guy had no option but to manually enter all 400+ items one after the other. Ridiculous...especially for a software that claims to be so well used.

Has there been any progress with this issue? I would consider this to be a very important feature when doing an implementation.

Hi,

Make sure you have created the products in Product Menu and locations in Stock Management Menu. Then your input sheet to import the initial inventory balance should have been prepared as per the following format in excel or openoffice:

1. Inventory (eg: InitialStock2009)
2. Location
3. Product
4. Quantity
5. Product UOM,

then save the file in CSV format and try to import the data. Hope it will work, it works for me.

Thank you.

kjohn,

I tried what you suggested and it worked. I was also able to get to the root of the problem in some ways (took a few hours of trial and error). This is what I was able to find (for the benefit of the others reading/following this):

1 - I was testing my initial uploads on an older version. The test was being done on Open ERP verion 5, while the success I had was with the latest version.
2 - Before uploading make sure to go to "New Periodic Inventory" and creating the header and saving it (providing information such as "Inventory" and "Date Create".
3 - Once above is done, use kjohn's procedure (ensure that the Inventory name in the header (step 2 above) matches the inventory name in the file, otherwise an error will be registered.
4 - Once upload is successful, depending on the browser you use (I tried with chrome, IE and Mozilla, with Mozilla being the most responsive and Chrome being the worst) you may be need to refresh before you see the results.
5 - Once uploaded, you will see the results of the new inventory in both the inventory module and the product module. Note however, if the item whose inventory is uploaded, had any quantity before the upload, it will be replaced with the new quantity, not appended.

Hope this helps the others. It certainly allows me to go into any inventory that already has quantities and set up the system.

Faizan.

Faizan,

I'm glad it worked for you. Hope OpenERP documentation team can update their CSV import documentation.

Thanks.

Hi again kjohn,

I'm not sure I've seen the CSV Import documentation. Is there a link from where I could get a copy of this? My only reference for help is either the forum or the OpenERP Documentation so far.

Faizan.

Hi everybody:

If this could help, we have got a free "course" on www.aulaerp.com where you can find several CSV formated files to import objects such as partners, accounts, inventory, products...

It's only written in spanish but maybe it could be translated to english if your find it usefull.

Wishing it helps...

Hello,
I am still unable to upload the initial stock. I have created a CSV file as mentioned by kjohn and created the header as well. Still unable to upload. Is there any specific field name for import is to be used?

My sample CSV data is like this..

inventory stock_real product_id uom_id quantity
Stock-1 RM Stock Socket Head Cap * 8 x 16 PCE 2
RM Stock Socket Head Cap * 8 x 20 PCE 5
RM Stock Socket Head Cap * 8 x 25 PCE 6
RM Stock Socket Head Cap * 8 x 30 PCE 4
RM Stock Socket Head Cap * 8 x 35 PCE 3

I get this error
('invalid literal for float(): quantity',

Please give your advice.
Its pain to upload more than 2000 item stock manually.

Thanks in advance..
Deepak

Hi,

Did you read the manual about import/export data?
http://doc.openerp.com/book/8/8_20_Conf ... o-open-erp

Firstly export samples data from a form, then use that file like template for formating your data.

My CSV template:

Inventory,Inventories/Location,Inventories/Product,Inventories/Product UOM,Inventories/Quantity
inventory name,Stock,Product name,PCE,1.00
,Stock,Product name 2,PCE,2.00

For you to be able to make an Initial Inventory have to create First a Initial Inventory Document with name e.g. "my_first_inventory" and save it, then:

make your csv as follow:
inventory_id,"product_qty","product_id","location_id","product_uom"
my_first_inventory,3,"Product Name","Stock","Product_Unit_of_Measure"

This csv you have to import it from the inside document you just created,

Let's see if I make a video and post it on YouTube, and so everybody profit from it,

I will post again in case I post that video

Hi,

I tried to followed the steps mentioned in the video, but cannot import my .csv file.

Error message: Error processing your first line of the file.
Field inventory_id;product_qty;location_id;product_id;product_uom is unknown!

What did I do wrong?

Thanks,

Pickles

Hi Pickles,

do you mind sharing with us a partial copy of the input file? For instance the first five records? It will help diagnose the problem

Cheers,
