I run a small shop ( gaming ) and I purchase "tokens" with coin, and then make 10 differnt things from those tokens to sell
I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to do this. I tried reading the tutorial and I'm just not getting it.
I'm using the "Windows all-in-one" version

can you explain a bit more in depth what you're trying to achieve?

I am guessing you would need to create a Bill of Material for each of your "things" with the components being the "tokens", but further info from you should clarify it.

Also from the above it seems your use case scenario openerp + BoM may be overkill. but I don't know.

oh i'[m sure its overkill, I just can't find anything "simpler/smaller" that will do what i need.
here's the process..
  • purchse tokens, from folks.. average 10k each.
  • go to merchant and convert tokens to......
    lets say its MP candy we sold and need to restock, in that case its 3 tokens produces 50 candy.
    I repeat this process for each Item I need to "restock".
    I have a set "inventory level" that I keep for each item. So when I restock I restock to that qty in the batches that are made. Some ( like mp ) are 50 per make, some 25, some only 1
  • add made items to items in store, returning normal stock levels.
  • repeat above as needed.

I would like to know where my profit is coming from, how well i'm doing... what I can expect in the near future and most importantly how many tokens do I need between xy period.
Tokens seem to fluctuate like stock market... so each time is a diff price normally. Sometimes hourly.
for example just now I looked at the shop and i see the following recent transactions
1424 sold 60 socket stones ( cost 11 tokens to make 10 )
1549 sold 5 Hyper Exp ( cost 10 to make 1 )
2016 sold 1 Make over Scroll ( cost 50 to make 1 )

my understanding is that "tokens" are raw material with variable cost price. The raw materials are used to make products which have a certain reorder level.

I understand that your "end products" are sold? and thus need replenishing?

So your definitions in openerp/MRP would be:
"token" = raw material
"products" = BOM

then you can set reorder levels for each of the products as well as manage your purchase of "token" raw materials. Note you need to "sell" your products in openerp in order to replenish and calculate your profits.
The token "prices" are set every time you buy tokens (you can of course set your "costing" to average costing, lifo fifo etc...)

final note, unless your need is really commercial in nature with multiple employees and needing comprehensive accounts/inventory costing i personally would suggest using a simple spreadsheet for this!
