Hi,

Here's an example to explain my problem:
To produce 1000 CDs, I need a MasterCD
To produce this MasterCD, I need studios, subcontracted services or salaries (musicians, technicians), post-production services, etc...
But after pressing the 1000 CDs, I still have my Master, hasn't been consumed.
So for the next time I want to press 1000 CDs of the same project, I don't need to re-produce a new MasterCD.

In my BoM, I'd like something like a conditional line:
Bom for Product CD:
- check if exists the Master, if not, order its production (MasterCD has its own BoM)
- then order the production of the 1000 CDs
(in fact, it must be there, but it is not a product "used" for the prduction of my CDs)

How shall I solve this situation?

In fact, it's a very usual issue, it's the same as for plastic industry, or foundry:
to produce 1000 pieces, I need a [form? model? shape?what's the word].
This [form/model/shape] doesn't need to be re-purchased or re-produced for the next 1000 pieces to produce.

You can use your Master CD like a consumable in OpenERP.

Consumable products in OpenERP are products without stock management.

Well, I don't understand how it can help...
For me it's just the opposite:
- a consumable product is something you buy each time, because it disappears when used
- what I need is something that's produced/bought ONCE. Then it's always possible to use it, I never need to buy/produce it again. But if the Master hasn't been bought/produced once, it's impossible to produce the CDs

Does a "consumable product" permit to reproduce this? How?

easy to solve :

What's your need ?
to see the avaibility of your masters CD before to confirm the production order ?
Use the MRP 1 methods to calculate your netto needs ?
confirm a production order of a master CD if you don't have one in stock before ?
increase an index to see how many CD's you have already produce ?
to plan a total productive maintenance after each 10 000 cycles ?

devellop a specific's modul for tool's management or use the Sub-product concept of the BOM

you will be able to have an answer for all the item above

Thanks a lot,
Can you post here when it's available on launchpad?

I'll test the subproducts solution, I'm afraid of the movements on my stock of masters, but in fact if the result of these movements stays one... Your module should correct this problem if I understood correctly.

Thanks again.

Thanks a lot again!
