Hi, I'm trying to do a full count of our stock, and update OERP. I'm using menu->physical inventories and updating numbers on the initial inventory that we created a couple years ago.
Some of them work fine, but others, say if I change to 8, will say 9. Others will be drastically different, and I find myself creating other inventories and setting quantities to -1 etc. to balance them. At the end of the day my stock quantities match, but I'm sure there's an easier way to do this.
Ideally, I want to be able to update quantities in my initial inventory and then double check the products and see that the numbers match from whats on erp and whats in the stock room.
I know it has something to do with the partner stock locations, and stock moves etc., but I don't know how to change those. Someone please help!

Is all your physical inventory in one location or many? When you ran the import inventory did you exclude non-internal locations?

Yes, everything is just in the initial inventory - however I was not here when it was created.
Looking more into it yesterday I know it has something to do with stock quantities counting in the 'supplier' location - but is there a way to change it so that only what is in my stockroom is counted? I don't want to have to keep adjusting numbers etc

check what locations are included in your physical inventory - sounds like you included suppliers.

Yes I believe this is exactly what we've done. Is there a way to remove that, so that only 'stock', for example, is included in physical inventory? thanks very much

When you import the entries into the physical inventory screen you define the location and have a checkbox for children. My guess is that you took the top of your location tree and included all children, which will then inlcude suppliers and customers. Take the location = stock (or whatever you have called in). If necessary you could import each internal location one by one.

I don't think there are checkboxes for children locations
When I add a product to a physical inventory (namely my initial inventory) I set the location to C, which is our main stock name. I write in the product and quantity and hit confirm/validate.
Is there somewhere I can take off suppliers and all other locations from my physical inventory? Thanks

When you click on the import inventory action there is a pop up box (Import Current Inventory from the following location). Underneath is a checkbox for include children - if all you want is a single location then leave unchecked.
When you click on the lookup for location, make sure that the location type is "internal location" and not the top of a tree which includes supplier as a child location.
If you still have a problem check your location set up for suppliers - in the typical set up will have partner locations as a parent, and partner locations will have no parent.

I understand now.
However, our initial inventory is done. So to fix this problem, am I going to have to delete all my physical inventories (including initial), import them again (eg. from location 'stock' and leave 'include children' unchecked) and manually update the quantity for each?
It is tedious, but if it will work I will gladly do it - this system has been giving me a hard time :p
Thanks for your quick reply

I just tried something which may help - you can actually set your non-internal locations to 0 as well via the physical inventory process. So one option is to set everything in all locations to 0 (you will have an offset in inventory loss) then start again with your correct stock location and enter your stocktake values.
