How to use barcode in POS OpenERP 6.1?

Hi there,

I am just download and playing around with POS OpenERP 6.1(windows) for evaluation.
For my POS application (retail store), I need to use Barcode reader (USB type) for speed up the customer transactions.
How can I set up the POS for using barcode reader instead of touchscreen / Keyboard? Please help.
Since I am newbie for OpenERP, any information will help and highly appreciated.

Hmm, openerp-book-v6.pdf seems do not have enough tutorial for POS module :roll:

Any body can suggest where the best to start read / learn POS?

Most barcode readers are seen as just another input device - like a keyboard.

There is no setup needed, you plug them in and wherever your cursor is positioned, when you scan a barcode with them, they spit out the characters represented by that barcode.

So they save typing in that code; there is no more magic to it than that.

Thanks for your response emyllymaki, I really appreciate it.

But if we look at the POS module on OpenERP 6.1 RC1, the default setting is use the touch screen (I assume). I have try to use bar-code reader but do not work.
On the top right in the Point of Sale menu, there is a search utility, but the search is based on the product name, not product reference or EAN13 as I wish.
Do you have any idea to overcome this? Please help.

Hi,
i have the same problem and search for a solution. Its an interesting POS but reading Barcodes is essential. Other POS search for name and also barcode. I think this is the right way.
Perhaps i will have the time to look where to change this.

The easiest way or a workaround would be to include the barcode in the name (description) of the product. But then the barcode would also be printed on the receipt. Not the best.

This seems the way to go for me, but its such a common feature that I am made to think that I am missing something somewhere.. Anyone who can help?

I think we just hope some one with good skill of OpenERP can make the change on the script, so POS can accept search by name or barcode.
This is completely out of my capability, because I am newbie in OpenERP and Linux word.
Some masters, gurus, help please.......

Hitting this problem here too.

How can the "Point of Sale" be useful without barcode lookup?
Are people expected to type in each item's name while customers wait in line?!

Even "Reference" cannot be looked up.. :shock:
