Tell us about about yourself:
How would you describe yourself:
Curious and pragmatic. As an engineer I like to observe the world and try to find the best, concrete and easiest solutions to problems. Self-willed and a little bit strong headed, I always do what it takes to reach my objectives. I also love to see the art behind engineering.
Who or what in your life would you say influenced you most?
My family, my grandparents and my children. Strong roots make strong trees.
What is the best birthday present you could receive?
Tickets for a nap or waking up whenever I like.
What do you do in your spare time?
Apart from being with my children, I'm feeding my geek side and doing powerlifitng at international level. I also like martial arts, visual arts and cooking (and eating too...). From time to time, I'm not against gaming.
What is your favorite place in the world?
Home sweet home. (No geek joke inside...)
Tell us about about You and OpenERP
When did you start working on OpenERP?
I started in 2006. It was version 3.x. Back then, I felt like Indiana Jones.
What got you excited about OpenERP?
All the way that have been done and that have yet to be done. You will never be bored with OpenERP.
Can you tell us more about your key contributions?
- Webkit report engine which allows to do multi-header reporting, design in HTML CSS (and Javascript if you dare...).
- The Swiss localization (l10n_ch) and its port through OpenERP versions.
- The OERPScenario Project (https://launchpad.net/oerpscenario): a Business Driven Development tool used for non regression and configuration.
- The contribution on core features now present in the tool , such as timesheet, multi currency improvements, financial reports, financial closing etc.;
- Accounting, multi- currency consolidation chart in V5 (and I hope soon in the next version)
- A lot of c2c_* modules.
- A future contribution that will bring a totally new business dimension to OpenERP, but that's a surprise ...
What attracts you to Open Source?
The spirit of sharing not only the code but also the knowledge.
The community aspect, even if it may be hard to manage.
What is your most embarrassing OpenERP moment?
A code regression that allows to insert non balanced entries. Try to explain what is a regression to an angry accountant....
Any personal message to other members of the community ?
We are now at a key moment in the life of the OpenERP project. It will take off and become one of the most popular ERP systems or it will crash. So let's make it faster, better, stronger...
If OpenERP was ...what would it be :
An animal (except for an ant of course) : A platypus, it is quite an UFO in the business solutions world
A colour : purple, don't ask me why...
A Dish : A spicy chili
A Song : “I will survive”
